Episode 21

Abortion

Published on: 4th October, 2021

Kim and Luca head back to the Priscilla Palace to discuss Abortion. With the issue never far from the headlines, it's back again with news that Texas is seeking to outlaw abortions after 6.5 weeks.

Shame and fear make it difficult to talk about abortions and if there's one thing these Good Troublemakers hate most, it's shame. So come in and let's talk some real talk - the right to choice, how we all contribute to the culture of shame and secrecy - hiding tampons up our sleeves en-route to the bathroom, euphemisms for completely normal processes and sex education shrouded in mis/half/wrong information, the fallacy of good and bad abortions and much, much more.

Featuring a reading of the incredible Lindy West essay, When Life Gives You Lemons.

About the Podcast

How Not
A Space for Good Troublemakers
How Not is the brainchild of two gobby Scottish creatives, Kim Macari and Luca Manning, who like to talk about the BIG stuff. We thought you might like to listen...So here we are. Our mission is to always be Good Troublemakers, to think big and to ask - How Not?!

Each episode, we pick something BIG to talk about. Sometimes that's an issue or idea that's been keeping us awake at night (like the right to Protest, The Punk Movement or Universal Basic Income...) and sometimes it's a person who think is bold and brilliant - someone worthy of the title Good Troublemaker (like Keith Haring, Marsha P. Johnson or Dererk Jarman...)
